Scientists in Germany are reporting development of a new generation of explosives that is more powerful than TNT and other existing explosives, less apt to detonate accidentally, and produce fewer toxic byproducts. Their study of these more environmentally friendly explosives is scheduled for the June 24 issue of ACS’ Chemistry of Materials, a bi-weekly journal.

Hours after British police defused a bomb in an abandoned car in London's theater district, police say they have found bomb components in a second vehicle in central London. Authorities say both cars contained canisters of fuel, propane, and nails, and they believe the bomb plots are linked. The incidents came hours after Britain's new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, announced his cabinet.
