Scientists from Oxford University have helped to close down a major counterfeit drugs operation. Evidence provided by the scientists and INTERPOL led to the arrest of a man accused of dealing fake anti-malaria pills.

A unique collaboration between scientists, public health workers and police has led to the arrest by the Chinese authorities of alleged traders of fake anti-malarial drugs in southern China and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs.

China has unveiled a set of guidelines that outline when the death penalty can be applied to the producers or sellers of fake drugs.

Following on from the sentencing of Ashish Halai two weeks ago (the co-conspirator in the global fake drugs scam), three more individuals were today sentenced to a total of 10 years;
