Five weeks after the penultimate round at Zolder, the tenth and final round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship was a long-haul affair: the brand-new 6.27 kilometres long “Potero de los Funes” circuit in San Luis in Argentina was the venue for the showdown of the season.

Danish driver Michael Nykjær has won his second consecutive European Touring Car Cup at the Salzburgring, driving a Chevrolet Denmark-run Lacetti. Nykjær won the first round and finished second in the second race, scoring enough points to beat SEAT driver Oscar Nogues in the final standings.

The ninth and penultimate round of the 2008 FIA GT Championship took place at the former Grand Prix circuit of Zolder in Belgium. Dutch-Italian pairing Mike Hezemans and Fabrizio Gollin were the best-placed Corvette team, finishing second with their Phoenix Carsport Racing entry. Their Swiss team-mates Marcel Fässler and Jean-Dénis Deletraz finished fifth in the closely-fought race.

The circuit of Nogaro in the south of France hosted the eighth round of the FIA GT Championship. The Phoenix Carsport Racing Corvette team was particularly successful with a second-place finish for its driver pairing Mike Hezemans and Fabrizio Gollin, followed by team-mates Marcel Fässler and Jean-Dénis Deletraz in third place.

After the streets of Bucharest, teams and drivers from the FIA GT Championship traveled to the nice scenery of Brno in the Czech Republic for the seventh round of this year’s series.

The second race of the FIA GT Championship, at the Monza circuit, ended in a glorious victory for Christophe Bouchut/Xavier Maassen with the no. 3 Corvette C6.R of the Belgian Selleslagh Racing Team (SRT).

The first weekend of FIA GT racing at Silverstone saw some good performances of the Corvette teams in their respective disciplines. Most of the action took place under gloomy conditions, the often changing track causing spins and crashes which led to a number of safety car interventions.

The kick-off for the FIA GT1 Championship 2008, comprising nine races in Europe and one in Argentina, is in Silverstone (GB) on April 19 and 20. This race series promises to be a major hit, with a full grid of stunning sports cars.
