Modern Mondays, is a weekly program that brings contemporary, innovative film and movingimage works to the public and provides a forum for viewers to engage in dialogue and debate with contemporary filmmakers and artists coming to Museum Of Modern Art, New York.

The widely varied and influential career of French director and screenwriter Julien Duvivier (1896-1967) is rediscovered in Julien Duvivier, a month-long, 22-film retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art, from May 1 through 28, 2009.

As part of the forthcoming display DLA Piper Series: This is Sculpture (From 1 May 2009), acclaimed film director Mike Figgis is working with Tate Liverpool and Tate Media on a series of short films that focus on conversations with people from Liverpool about works of art in the Tate Collection.

The Newseum, in partnership with American University’s School of Communication, announced today the next two films in its popular series, Reel Journalism With Nick Clooney. The spring program will feature "The War Room" and "A Mighty Heart," which were chosen to highlight films that encourage discussion of the critical role and responsibilities of a free press in a democratic society.

The Museum of Modern Art presents Kino! at Thirty: New Cinema from Germany, the Museum’s 30th annual survey of recent German cinema, from April 22 through 30, 2009. Over the last three decades, MoMA has celebrated new cinema from Germany with an annual presentation of contemporary fiction features, documentaries, student works, and animated films.

The 38th edition of New Directors/New Films, the longstanding collaboration between The Museum of Modern Art and The Film Society of Lincoln Center, hits screens at both venues, March 25 – April 5. The 2009 slate will premiere 25 feature films and six shorts from 24 countries and host numerous filmmakers and special guests on stage.

In honor of the late British Director David Lean's centenary, the Cleveland Museum of Art will feature four of his early films this February. The films-- two comedies and two dramas--were each recently restored by the British Film Institute. Fans of Lean's landscapes in Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and Bridge of the River Kwai will also enjoy the more intimate settings of Lean's earlier works.

The Smithsonian’s Discovery Theater will host a film screening of Jim Henson’s classic movie “The Christmas Toy” Saturday, Dec. 20, at noon in the Smithsonian’s Ripley Center.

The Museum of Modern Art, in association with Cinecitta Holding, presents the New York premiere of Ferzan Ozpetek’s most recent film, Un giorno perfetto (A Perfect Day) (2008), as one of the features of Filmmaker in Focus: Ferzan Ozpetek, a seven-film exhibition of one of the most successful contemporary Italian filmmakers.

The Museum of Modern Art honors award-winning film and TV director and screenwriter Agnieszka Holland (Polish, b. 1948) with a month-long exhibition spanning her three-decade career, from her roots as a highly political contributor to Polish New Wave cinema, through major English-language releases such as The Secret Garden (1993) and Washington Square (1997), and her most recent work as a director for the American television series The Wire.

Clevelanders can get an authentic, insider’s view of contemporary Iran when master Iranian filmmaker, Dariush Mehrjui, appears in person at the Cleveland Museum of Art on Saturday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m. Mehrjui will introduce and answer audience questions after a screening of his latest film, Santouri the Music Man, currently banned in Iran.

The Museum of Modern Art, in association with IFP, presents the third edition of Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, an exhibition of the five films nominated for the “Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You” award. The winner will be announced on December 2 at IFP’s Eighteenth Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.
