MoMA Screens New Directors, New Films

The 38th edition of New Directors/New Films, the longstanding collaboration between The Museum of Modern Art and The Film Society of Lincoln Center, hits screens at both venues, March 25 – April 5. The 2009 slate will premiere 25 feature films and six shorts from 24 countries and host numerous filmmakers and special guests on stage.

Cleveland Museum Film Series Honors David Lean

In honor of the late British Director David Lean's centenary, the Cleveland Museum of Art will feature four of his early films this February. The films-- two comedies and two dramas--were each recently restored by the British Film Institute. Fans of Lean's landscapes in Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and Bridge of the River Kwai will also enjoy the more intimate settings of Lean's earlier works.

The Museum of Modern Art honors award-winning film and TV director and screenwriter Agnieszka Holland (Polish, b. 1948) with a month-long exhibition spanning her three-decade career, from her roots as a highly political contributor to Polish New Wave cinema, through major English-language releases such as The Secret Garden (1993) and Washington Square (1997), and her most recent work as a director for the American television series The Wire.
