The Fitzwilliam Museum will be one of the partners in the new ‘MMG artSbus’ scheme, designed to extend the services of leading Cambridge arts organizations to the wider community via a specially designed mobile studio - in the form of a bus.

A new exhibition will celebrate one of the most enriching periods in the history of the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Directorship of Sir Sydney Cockerell.

Three monumental late 17th century Chinese vases, damaged last year at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, are back on public display following the complex process of restoration. A specially designed case, overlooking the staircase where the vases had originally been displayed for almost sixty years, now houses the imposing lidded baluster jar - 80 cm in height and weighing approximately 45 kg - flanked by two slightly smaller porcelain vases of 'yan yan' shape.

The fascinating conflicts and contradictions of the so-called ‘Age of Reason’ are illuminated in a new exhibition opening at the Fitzwilliam Museum. From Reason to Revolution: Art and Society in Eighteenth-Century Britain examines this dynamic period of British history and Eighteenth-through paintings, prints, drawings, rare books, ceramics and sculptures, and includes works by William Hogarth, Joshua Reynolds, Joseph Wright and William Blake.

Fitzwilliam Museum has acquired Sir William Nicholson's (1872 - 1949) Begonias painting. Nicholson was an exceptionally gifted painter of still-life. >From his earliest years as a painter he developed an innate ability to combine simple - sometimes even mundane - objects and forms to create immensely satisfying compositions which were at once studies in light, texture and the physicality of paint.

The Fitzwilliam Museum has been awarded a grant of £300,000 from the DCMS/Wolfson Foundation towards the refurbishment of its Greek and Roman gallery - one of the most popular galleries in the Museum, displaying classical antiquities against a backdrop of magnificent nineteenth century neo-classical architecture.

Fitzwilliam Museum recently acquired soft-paste porcelain painted in enamels, with engraved and enamelled gold mounts and stopper Capodimonte, possibly painted by Giovanni Sigismondo Fischer, c 1752-55, the mounts made in London, c. 1755-60

The painting of Joseph Wright was acquired by the Fitzwilliam Museum with the assistance of a grant from the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, and a contribution from the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum.

To mark the centenary of one of its greatest benefactors, the American philanthropist and art collector Paul Mellon, the Fitzwilliam Museum is mounting this summer an exhibition which illustrates his many ties to the United Kingdom and to Cambridge in particular, on view from 12 June to 23 September 2007.

This exhibition of The Fitzwilliam Museum's complete collection of Auerbach's prints ranges from the rare series of drypoint nudes made in 1954 to his most recent and boldest etchings, through 10 June, 2007.
