The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced today that Alexia Foods is voluntarily recalling packages of its Alexia – Olive Oil, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Pesto Oven Reds (frozen seasoned potato wedges) for an undeclared allergen, pine nuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pine nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The product was distributed to retail stores nationwide.

A meat recall affecting several New England states has been expanded. A beef recall of more than a half-million-pounds of ground beef was issued Friday by its producer, Fairbank Farms of Ashville, NY, but on Monday announced it has expanded the range of affected states to include all Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.

Unilever United States, Inc., makes Breyers ice cream and is working in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on this recall.

A single lot of Kroger Hazelnut Spread, packed in Italy by Nutkao, is under an urgent recall by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Testing revealed the product was found to contain trace amounts of peanuts. Consumers who have an allergy to peanuts may run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they consume product containing such ingredients.

A recall was announced by the Raleigh, North Carolina company, Fisher/Rex Sandwiches. They are recalling some of their sandwiches because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Northern Star Co. has begun a voluntary product recall of Simply Potatoes refrigerated potato products suspected of containing Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Listeria is one of the most virulent food borne pathogens with 20 percent of clinical infections resulting in death.

T. Piekutowski European Style Sausage, a St. Louis, Mo., firm, has announced a 750 pounds of sausage recall that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
