The Vancouver Art Gallery will provide a fascinating look into the innovative artistic practice of Turkish artist Kutlug Ataman through May 19, 2008. Kutlug Ataman: Paradise and Küba presents two large-scale video installations that give voice to two distinctly different communities – Orange County, California and a neighbourhood in Istanbul, Turkey – each describing their ideas of utopia.

The American artist Philip Taaffe is one of the foremost painters of his generation. The exhibition "The Life of Forms" at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg is the most extensive survey of Taaffe's work ever to be shown in a museum. Organized in close collaboration with the artist, it presents over 80 paintings from the period 1980 – 2008.

For the first time, the Vancouver Art Gallery will bring the worlds of anime, comics, cartoons, video games, manga, graphic novels and contemporary art together in one exhibition. Offering an innovative and dynamic survey, KRAZY! The Delirious World of Anime + Comics + Video Games + Art reveals the uniqueness of each medium, while uncovering their histories, interrelations and future trajectories.

Belgian brothers David and Stephen Dewaele's indie live phenomenon Radio Soulwax will take over the spaces and foyers of the Royal Festival Hall on 24 April for a one-night party. The evening features the premiere of their new movie, Part of the Weekend Never Dies, directed by Saam Farahmand and Soulwax. Soulwax will perform live and 2manyDJs will play alongside a special guest on the night.

Centre today announced that the sensational Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela with conductor Gustavo Dudamel will return to London on 14 – 18 April 2009 for a special residency at Southbank Centre as part of the 2008/09 Shell Classic International season.

Monumental color photographs explore the sublime beauty and inherent danger of the sea and its surroundings in the days following September 11, 2001 in the exhibition Richard Misrach: On the Beach, on view in the photography galleries at the National Gallery of Art from May 25 to September 1, 2008.

Shell Classic International continues to bring the world's greatest orchestras to the Royal Festival Hall, complementing Southbank Centre's Resident Orchestras' season. For the new season (October 2008 – May 2009) there are several major highlights.

Radical Light is the largest show of its kind to be held in the UK, and one of the first outside Italy to examine this vital movement. Comprising over fifty works by the most influential Divisionist painters, the exhibition includes rare loans from private collections (Umberto Boccioni, Workshops at Porta Romana, 1908) and the public collections of Europe and North America. The exhibition will run from 18 June to 7 September 2008.

Following in the mercurial footsteps of previous directors John Peel, Robert Wyatt, Scott Walker, David Bowie, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Morrissey, Patti Smith and Jarvis Cocker, this is the first time a group has accepted the much-coveted invitation from Southbank Centre to curate their own festival.

Southbank Centre concerts and talks programmed by the renowned and muchloved folk singer Shirley Collins. Over the past few years, interest has grown in the artist who, whether performing solo, with her sister Dolly, or collaborating on seminal albums with Davey Graham or the Albion Country Band, has been central to the British folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s.

Concepts of place evoke powerful emotions. Place can be sacred, personal, universal, and culturally significant. Artist Mary K. Connelly connects with concepts of space in intimate small-scale paintings, on view at Woman Made Gallery, through March 31, 2008.

Southbank Centre Zurich Opera under the baton of Music Director Franz Welser-Most returns to the Royal Festival Hall on 12 April, at 6.30pm with a concert performance of Richard Strauss' first comic opera, Der Rosenkavalier. The cast includes international soloists Nina Stemme, Michelle Breedt, Malin Hartelius and Alfred Muff.
