New roadside beautification concept studied

Travel America's highways or drive down any city street this summer and you'll probably see them. From small, manicured beds of flowers maintained by community volunteers to extensive landscaping projects along America's byways, roadside gardens are taking root.

One of Bristol’s historic gardens open to view

One of Bristol’s best-known 18th-century formal gardens, set in ten acres of formal and wooded gardens in Clifton, will be open to the public on Sunday 27 April. Built in 1714 and designed by Thomas Goldney III, Goldney gardens are English Heritage listed.

Minneapolis Home and Garden Show Goes British

The Minneapolis Home and Garden Show runs through this weekend with a distinctly British air–well, OK, it’s British as done by Minnesotans going insane from snow and cold and starved for greenery. I visited the show Wednesday to check out the display gardens and visit the Minnesota Horticulture Society’s booth. This year, MSHS also has a small display area, designed by Lilydale Garden Center.

Children's gardens mushrooming

Researchers have discovered the secrets to enhancing youth participation in school and community-based garden programs. A three-year study entitled "Greener Voices" proves that children will engage in learning more readily when given responsibility for decision making and planning.
