Reports from Georgia say Russian tanks are leaving the city of Gori, in compliance with a cease-fire agreement signed last week. However Russian news agency RIA novosti says Georgian troops are not implementing President Mikheil Saakashvili's orders on their withdrawal from the South Ossetian conflict zone, a senior Russian military official said Tuesday.

The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said on Sunday during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy that Russian troops would start their pullout from Georgia on August 18.

A Russian general on Sunday said that peacekeepers are starting to replace regular troops occupying the flash-point town of Gori, opening the way for badly needed humanitarian aid.

Being an advocate for peace is a difficult and thankless task. As war zones wind down, others flare up, while success is heralded in Iraq, Afghanistan grows more unstable, and just when we think that an invasion of Iran has been avoided, the shit hits the fan in Eastern Europe.

This morning CNN had changed totally. For a moment I thought I am watching a Russian channel not the CNN, as the network was showing what the Russians were telling already few days: that the Georgia and it's president Saakashvili committed atrocities in South Ossetia. I hear more talks on CNN about the recognition of these republics' independence and getting peace in the region.

President Medvedev said Russia would “support any status for South Ossetia and Abkhazia that is accepted by the people of these republics.”

Russian troops march deep into Georgia, violating truce. Reports say Russian tanks are moving toward the Georgian Capital Tbilisi.

Georgia says dozens of Russian tanks rolled into a strategic city and seized a military base, violating an EU-mediated agreement to end a six-day conflict. Emma Stickgold reports for VOA from Moscow that Russia said some of its soldiers went into the Georgian city of Gori, but denied the report of tanks.

The real action is going to start after the ceasefire. The time will show what really happened and who did what. So far we know that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili ordered the assault on South Ossetia thinking he can solve the problem within 48 hours. Everyone knew that Russia would give strong military response. If Saakashvili did not know that then it's time for him to resign ASAP because his action seriously endangered the very existence of the country of Georgia.
