The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation has awarded Bishop Museum with a $290,000 grant over eighteen months to study climate change planning and mitigation to help stem the threats of global warming.

Smithsonian Receives $8 Million HSBC Grant

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) today received an $8 million grant from HSBC to fund the world's largest field experiment on the long-term effects of global change on forest dynamics. A new Global Earth Observatory system will compare climate change and forest carbon data from 17 countries around the world.

Continuum Health Care Announces Grants

Continuum Health Care Inc. ("Continuum" or the "Corporation") ("TSX-V: CCF") is pleased to announce that on December 13, 2006, the Rural Affordable Supportive Living ("RASL") Program, a program established by the Alberta government though Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Seniors, approved of a grant of $2,126,322 for the development of a ninety-six unit supportive living facility in High River, Alberta.

Blues Music Foundation Awards Major Blues Grants

The Blues Music Foundation, a non-profit organization launched during 2003's Year of the Blues celebration, announced today that it has awarded $191,650 in grants to non-profit organizations and museums that celebrate and preserve the blues. Established in 2003, the Foundation set out to dedicate the net proceeds from the "Salute to the Blues" benefit concert to underwrite projects that promote blues education, assist organizations with special blues-related needs, and support other worthy blues causes.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden Receives NEA Grant

American Symphony Orchestra League Receives 2 Grants

The American Symphony Orchestra League has announced that it has been awarded two grants from The Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation for long-term support of the League's professional development programs for American conductors. In recognition of a $600,000 matching grant to support all of the League's conducting programs and a $50,000 grant for the League's 2007 National Conductor Preview and Music Director Search Seminar, the League has renamed the Preview in memory of legendary conductor Bruno Walter.

Ballet Memphis Receives Mellon Foundation Grant

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $60,000 planning grant to Ballet Memphis to support field interviews, research, and convening, aimed at examining the intellectual and civic relevance and operational challenges of regional ballet companies in midsized cities. The work will be conducted primarily by Dorothy Gunther Pugh, working with Russell Willis Taylor, executive director of National Arts Strategies. The planning grant will result in a paper that will be made available to the dance field.
