Unraveling At Mystery At Bishop Museum

As a young scholar of Polynesian anthropology, Bishop Museum ethnologist Kenneth Emory conducted ground-breaking fieldwork in the Tuamotus in the early 1930s. Little did he know that several stone adzes (hafted woodworking tool) he obtained then, would solve one of the long-standing problems in ancient Polynesian migration and trade.

Oli Exhibition Offered At Bishop Museum

Bishop Museum captured these dramatic and moving performances on video and will be screening the Pa Ka Leo film free of charge in Atheron Halau on September 20 at 5:30 p.m. Seating is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The screening will be preceded by a presentation about Ho'olaupa'i: Hawaiian Newspaper Resource project and the history of the Hawaiian language newspaper repository, given by project manager Kaui Sai-Dudoit.

Echo Partnership Brings American Storytellers To Classrooms

This week a cross-cultural group of storytellers, musicians, and performers are holed up in a North Shore beach cottage to find their common ground and build performance pieces they will carry as far east as Martha's Vineyard, as far west as O'ahu, and as far north as Alaska.

Native Hawaiian Arts Market At Bishop Museum

Bishop Museum will be the site of both the kick-off and the culmination of the second annual Maoli Arts Month (MAMo), a month-long celebration of Native Hawaiian arts, artists, and cultural practitioners. Bishop Museum is also hosting the culminating event, a two-day Native Hawaiian Arts Market and Festival, which will feature the stellar work of dozens of native artists, on May 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reduced admission rate of $3 per person will be offered.

Bishop Museum Hosts Maoli Arts Month Kickoff

Bishop Museum will begin the second annual Maoli Arts Month (MAMo) by celebrating six Native Hawaiian master artists on Thursday, May 3, at 5 p.m. with the members-only opening of Kü I Kä Ni'o 2: In Celebration of Native Hawaiian Master Artists in the Vestibule Gallery.
