A Nobel prizewinner and Britain’s first Asian woman peer are among six people to be honoured by the University of Leeds at ceremonies on 10 and 11 July 2008. The University has agreed to confer honorary degrees on Mark Byford, Professor Albert Fert, Baroness Flather, Sir Christopher Rose, Martin Scicluna and Polly Toynbee.

Cardiff University has awarded an Honorary Fellowship to one of the world’s major living composers.

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Dr Clifford Cocks and Mr Tim Pigott-Smith at today’s degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building [Tuesday 19 February].

Leading scientists, an administrator, a philosopher and a soprano are among an international group of six men and women who will receive honorary degrees from Oxford University this year, subject to the approval of Congregation. The honorands will be awarded their degrees at Encaenia on Wednesday 18 June 2008.
