In just a little over two years, The Huffington Post has gone from being a side project for founder Arianna Huffington — whom many saw as an intellectual dilettante playing around on the Internet — to a new-media powerhouse whose Web traffic is larger than that of many traditional media competitors.

The 2008 presidential contenders will debate in cyberspace in early next fall. The political blog Huffington Post, online portal Yahoo and Slate Magazine will host the debates - one for Democratic candidates, one for Republicans - sometime in autumn, with PBS host Charlie Rose serving as moderator, the sponsors planned to announce Monday.
