A British rights group says ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples across the globe suffer disproportionately from the effects of climate change - and that their plight has not been recognized by the international community.

More than a year after Ethiopian troops invaded Somalia and toppled the Islamic Courts Union, a political settlement and peace still have not been achieved. And hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and are in need of emergency assistance.

South Korea has announced a multi-million dollar aid package for North Korea, where hundreds of thousands of people are suffering because of floods. The United States has also pledged to send help. VOA's Kurt Achin has more from Seoul.

Every year, millions of people worldwide are displaced because of natural or industrial disasters or social upheaval. Reliable data on the numbers, characteristics, and locations of these displaced populations can bolster humanitarian relief efforts and subsequent recovery programs. Conversely, the absence of such information can hinder the prompt delivery of aid and impact the survival and recovery of affected groups.
