Researchers in Greece report design of a new material that almost meets the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 2010 goals for hydrogen storage and could help eliminate a key roadblock to practical hydrogen-powered vehicles.

A company in Japan called Genepax, has come up with a car that runs entirely on water and air. They have designed a unique WES (water energy system) that breaks water down into it’s elements of hydrogen and oxygen and then uses them. The car costs the equivalent of $18,500 US dollars.

Researchers at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science have developed a model that could help engineers and scientists speed up the development of hydrogen-fueled vehicles by identifying promising hydrogen-storage materials and predicting favored thermodynamic chemical reactions through which hydrogen can be reversibly stored and extracted.

The Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid, shown to reporters ahead of its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month, operates on a rotary engine, which has a reputation for being quiet because it doesn't have pistons like standard engines.

The Honda FCX fuel cell-powered car, as the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has approved that this hydrogen-powered Honda FCX will get a $12,000 tax credit.
