If you don't have an Amazon Kindle you will soon be able to read electronic books on your computer. Amazon announced Thursday the release date of "Kindle for PC." It will release "Kindle for PC" in November. It will let people buy, download and read Kindle books on the computer. Amazon will provide a software application,available next month as a free download, that can convert Kindle books to PC-readable ones.

Barnes & Noble opened (or rather, re-opened) an e-book store earlier this year. The expectation was that B&N would, as they announced, support the Plastic Logic e-book reader (Que) next year, but recent rumors have pointed to their own e-book reader. Leaks indicate that this device, the Barnes and Noble Nook, will be announced today.

Bookseller Barnes & Noble are going to be adding their name to the list of e-book readers. The new e-reader may be out as soon as November and will feature a six-inch screen from digital-paper maker E-Ink Corporation. On Wednesday, at a press conference at Pace University, Amazon.com unveiled the Kindle DX, with a 9.7" diagonal screen (Kindle 2 has a 6" screen). The new device is aimed at consumers who want to read textbooks, newspapers, or magazines, and will sell for $489 (pre-order now, available in summer '09) vs. the Kindle 2's $359.

When Amazon.com announced the Kindle 2, they also announced Whispersync, which they quite pointedly said would work with Kindle, Kindle 2 and future mobile devices. Late last month Amazon.com apologized for delays in Kindle delivery. Their apology said they would in a few weeks be able to offer an "order today, ship today" service on the Kindle. Amazon is trying to scare sites with Kindle in their name who have placed Amazon Associates links or banners on their sites into giving up their domains. I received an email today telling me my Amazon Associate account will be canceled and I will forfeit any revenue from Q1 of 2008 (currently totaling around $45) if I do not contact them to transfer KindleReport.com to Amazon.
