Back in September, Christine Beatty refused a plea deal in the steamy text message scandal with former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. However, this morning the tearful former City of Detroit Chief of Staff admitted “she lied under oath” and has accepted a plea deal that includes jail time.

Everyone knows former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is in jail for lying about his sex life and role in the demotion of two police officers. And that some Detroit City Council members are currently being investigated by the FBI for accepting bribes to approve a waste hauling contract. Honest politicians may not be easy to find in Detroit.

The mayor of Detroit keeps getting into comical scrapes, which is great because any time the Detroit Free Press needs to fill its news hole they just look out the window and see what kind of buffoonery Kwame Kilpatrick is engaged in at that hour of the day.

A group of business and political leaders is forming a legal defense fund called Detroit Justice Fund to help Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick fight felony perjury charges.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has just announced that Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty will be charged with 15 counts of perjury and must turn themselves in by 7am on Tuesday. Worthy has said if the Mayor and Ms. Beatty do not turn themselves in by this time, arrest warrants will be issued for them.

If Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick does not resign, the City Council of Detroit will force him out. That from an approval of a resolution telling the Mayor that is time to resign. This chain of events is directly related to the sex text message scandal between Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty his former Chief of Staff.

Kym Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor has decided to investigate the charges of perjury against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his Chief of Staff Christine Beatty. A conviction of lying under oath can bring up to 15 years' imprisonment. Local Detroit labor Union AFSCME 207 has called for Kilpatrick's resignation.
