Austin Botanical Gardens Celebrates Wildflower Days

It will soon be time for those bluebonnet photos, and one of the best places to take them is at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, in Austin TX during the 2008 Wildflower DaysTM. Between March 10 and April 30, the center is open every day, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Look for meadows and gardens abloom with Indian paintbrush, winecups, evening primroses, giant spiderworts, Blackfoot daisies and Drummond phlox as well as the Texas state flower.

Heavy Rains Could Bring Impressive Wildflower Displays

Above average rainfall in Central Texas could mean good things for wildflower displays and the many wildflower enthusiasts that enjoy them each spring. "Wildflowers typically do well in El Nino years," said Mark Simmons, ecologist at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

The Native Plant Information Network (NPIN), already one of the most comprehensive online resources for native plant information, is now much more useful to landscaping professionals and home gardeners, thanks to a total redesign introduced this month by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin.
