Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) and Sony Corporation (“Sony”) today announced that they have signed a contract to establish an additional 8th generation amorphous TFT-LCD manufacturing line (“8-2 line”) at their joint venture, S-LCD Corporation (“S-LCD”).

NEC LCD Technologies today introduced two new 6.5-inch (17cm-diagonal) amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) modules with high luminance and video graphics array (VGA) resolution.

S-LCD Corporation, a joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Sony Corporation, today announced the shipment of LCD panels produced from its 8th Generation Line. S-LCD's 8th Generation Line is capable of processing the world's largest motherglass substrates, measuring 2,200mm by 2,500mm.

Sharp Corporation filed a lawsuit on August 6, 2007 (US eastern time) alleging infringements of five of its patents on LCD-related technology by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (Samsung) and its US subsidiaries Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA) and Samsung Telecommunications America (STA). The suit was filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
