The 34th Marine Corps Marathon will be held on October 25, 2009 and features a weekend full of activities, including the Marine Corp Marathon Health and Fitness Expo. The Expo started Friday and will end Saturday, October 24 at 7pm. The 2009 Health and Fitness Expo will be held at the Walter E. The 2009 Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon celebrated its 30th anniversary today with winners crossing the finish line on the clover-leaf design course. The collapse of a 23 year old runner in Saturday's Baltimore Marathon marks the second fatality in the 9 year history of the Baltimore Marathon. The runner, identified by the Princeton University newspaper as Peter Curtain, collapsed in the 25th mile of the race and was pronounced dead at Union Memorial Hospital two hours later.

The 16th annual ING Hartford Marathon 2009 is underway in Bushnell Park. Runners are already starting to cross the finish line, including winner Patrick Moulton of Rhode Island. Moulton, who won $6,000, finished in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 21 seconds in the 26.2 mile Hartford Marathon today.

The Twin Cities Marathon 2009 got underway just after sunrise Sunday morning with the help of over 5,000 volunteers who coordinated the event. Racing to the finish line this year include the oldest runner Lloyd Young, 86 and the youngest marathon runner, Olivia Verhoye, 14. Thirty-one percent of the entrants are running their first marathon. There are runners from every state and 21 countries.
