The Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon has aunique course crossing the U.S./Canadian border twice. This big day for the Detroit area had a very sad turn of events when three runners in the marathon died during the race. Three men of varying ages died during the early part of the marathon. Weather conditions were overcast and in the 40's, so heat was not a factor.

The 2009 Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon celebrated its 30th anniversary today with winners crossing the finish line on the clover-leaf design course. To help the runners along the way, more than 60 bands, entertainers, and radio stations lined the course of the Columbus Marathon. Winners are still crossing the finish line that will close at 3pm.

The Twin Cities Marathon 2009 got underway just after sunrise Sunday morning with the help of over 5,000 volunteers who coordinated the event. Racing to the finish line this year include the oldest runner Lloyd Young, 86 and the youngest marathon runner, Olivia Verhoye, 14. Thirty-one percent of the entrants are running their first marathon. There are runners from every state and 21 countries.

St. George Marathon organizers say that the lottery numbers are in an 7200 runners are selected from 10,510 registrants. On May 14, St. George Marathon will post the Runner's Guide in its website.

For most participants the London Marathon started and finished on Sunday April 26th. Major Phil Packer started with everybody else on April 26th, but didn't finish the 26.2 mile course until Saturday May 9th, 13 days later.

Indianapolis Mini Marathon organizers have made a statement that OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has made a swine flu precautions and the runners will use face masks and gloves for H1N1 safety. Indianapolis Mini Marathon starts today on May 2.

On Sunday, we will see the first Pasadena Marathon, and despite much of the attention in Southern California being focused on the Yorba Linda / Anaheim Hills fire, which originally started in Montecito, the race will go on.

Sunday, November 2nd of 2008, marks the running of the 38th annual NYC Marathon, the route of which will take runners from their Fort Wadsworth staging area in Staten Island, across the Verrazano Bridge, and into the open embrace of Bay Ridge - as runners enter the first leg of the 26.2 mile race.
