Mazda Motor Corp. said Tuesday its vehicle sales in China rose 25.5% last year to 127,846 units, reported Dow Jones. Mazda said in a statement its sales in China last month rose 22.5% to 12,984 units.

FAW Mazda is preparing for building a new plant, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2010 and will boost the carmaker's production capacity to 120,000 units, Beijing Morning Post said, citing Yu Hongjiang, general manager of FAW Mazda Sales Co.

Mazda Motor (China) Co said the company posted 27% sales growth during the first ten months of the year as a result of dealership network restructuring and product lineup expansion.

Mazda China will have to revise its mid-term sales target of 300,000 units by 2010, or delay this goal, due to the underperformance of Changan Mazda in the China market, reported Beijing Times, citing a top executive of the company. However, this will not affect the anticipation of Mazda's operations in China.

An earlier report by Wall Street Journal said that Ford Motor Co. is considering the sale of its controlling stake in Japan's Mazda Motor Co. as the second-largest U.S. automaker tries to steady its finances amid slumping sales, while Luo Jingling, auto industry expert, told the East Morning Post that Ford’s joint venture in China will not be seriously affected as it is still profitable in the Chinese market.

Japanese carmaker Mazda Motor Corp said it plans to launch new passenger car models successively in China. Besides the MPV and sports Roadstar, the company also plans to restart production of hot-selling models in its Nanjing small car factory which is cutting production now, autosina.com said yesterday.
