Tens of thousands of government critics are gathering in the Georgian capital and other major cities to demand the resignation of President Mikheil Saakashvili and to call for early elections.

Georgij Chaindrawa, a former minister of Georgian President Mikheil Saakasvili's goverment, who was in charge of dealing with the conflicts with Abchasia and Ossetia until 2006, accuses Saakashvili of undemocratic behaviour and war mongering.

Mikheil Saakashvili has been inaugurated for a second five-year term as president of Georgia, pledging to bring Tbilisi closer to the West and at the same time repair a deep rift with neighboring Russia.

TBILISI, January 5 (RIA Novosti) - Mikheil Saakashvili has won Georgia's presidential election in the first round with 52.5% of the vote, according to early exit polls organized by Georgian TV companies.

Saakashvili, the president of nation of Georgia, said in his televised address to the nation in Tbilisi: "I have a proposal to hold presidential elections on January 5, 2008."
