Students´ Gold Key Art Shines

Outstanding artworks by Harris County students who are Gold Key recipients in the 2007 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program are on view through February 8, 2007 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston´s Glassell Junior School of Art, 5100 Montrose Boulevard. The annual Harris County Department of Education Gold Key Exhibition includes paintings, drawings, mixed media, photography, ceramics, and sculpture by students who were recognized with Gold Keys, the highest regional award given in the Scholastic program.

Eye On Third Ward

The annual Eye on Third Ward exhibition, opening February 10, 2007 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is complemented by a sampling of photographs taken by Polish students in a program inspired by the Yates example. The result, Eye on Third Ward - Eye on Krakow, demonstrates the skill and sensitivity of teenagers charged with documenting life in their communities. The exhibition will be on view in the museum´s Caroline Wiess Law Building, 1001 Bissonnet Street, through June 24, 2007.

City Glow Video By Japanese Pop Art Star

One of the most celebrated landmarks of contemporary Japanese Pop Art since it was first introduced to international audiences in 2005, the monumental video City Glow by the Japanese Pop Art star Chiho Aoshima will be on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, from January 27 to April 29, 2007, in the lower corridor of the Audrey Jones Beck Building. Spanning five video screens, it has been described by the Los Angeles Times´ Christopher Knight as "a post-modern Japanese screen painting."

The African American Art Advisory Association (Five-A) of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents the 11th Annual Citywide African-American Art Exhibition at 10 venues from February 1-28, 2007. The Museum Of Fine Arts And National Museum Of Korea Create Partnership

New Project to Establish MFAH as Leader in Presentation and Interpretation of Korean Art in the South and Southwest United States. At a press briefing held today in the Caroline Wiess Law Building at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Dr. Peter C. Marzio, MFAH director, and Dr. Kim Hongnam, director of the National Museum of Korea, Seoul, South Korea, stated their intentions to enter into a long-term agreement and loan of Korean cultural treasures that will serve as the foundation of the Korean Art.

Student Films Sought For Houston´s Young Moviemakers 2007 Contest

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston film department is accepting submissions for the eighth annual Houston´s Young Moviemakers 2007, a project of the MFAH, Women in Film & Television/Houston, and Houston MediaSource. This juried showcase celebrates the achievements of Houston-area students who are creating work in film and video and encourages young people from elementary to high school to express themselves artistically in this medium.
