The second It Came from Brooklyn concert will take place September 25, 2009, at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum with performances by Julian Plenti (aka Paul Banks of Interpol) and I’m In You and readings by authors Rivka Galchen and Hampton Fancher. Comedian Eugene Mirman will serve as the MC for the evening.

On Wednesday, September 16, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will host the 2009 Guggenheim International Gala, its annual fundraising celebration, now in its fifth year. The Museum of Modern Art announces two major photography acquisitions: nearly 60 rare examples of nineteenth-century photography from the Suzanne Winsberg Collection and 39 photographs by Richard Avedon. The bequest of photographs from the Suzanne Winsberg Collection—comprising works that range in date from 1847 to 1893 by artists such as Edouard-Denis Baldus, Gustave Le Gray, Nadar, Charles Negre, Louis-Remy Robert, and Benjamin Brecknell Turner—enriches MoMA’s holdings of nineteenth-century photography.

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, celebrates 25 years this season along with the 50th anniversary of the Guggenheim Museum, and is pleased to announce its fall 2009 schedule. In over 300 productions, Works & Process has championed new works, offered audiences unprecedented access to our generation’s leading creators and performers, and hosted post-show receptions for the audiences and artists.

On Saturday, September 12, Acoma Plaza will be alive with the music and color of the 20th Annual Denver Art Museum Friendship Powwow & American Indian Cultural Celebration. The free event will begin at 10 a.m. with Gourd Dancing, followed by the grand entry at noon. Dance contests include categories ranging from tiny tot to adult.

Works & Process, the performing arts program at the Guggenheim, celebrates its 25th anniversary along with the 50th Anniversary of the Guggenheim Museum in two newly commissioned works, offered in conjunction with the full-scale retrospective Kandinsky presented at the Guggenheim from September 18, 2009 to January 13, 2010.
