The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian Native Arts Program will host community arts symposium “Finding Common Ground in First Nations Art: Bringing Together Cultural Traditions and Creativity” June 3, from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The daylong program is presented in collaboration with local artist Chloe French from Bellingham, Wash.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian is accepting applications for its Visual and Expressive Arts Grants program designed to support the wide ranging creative activities of Native American artists. The goal of the program is to increase the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of contemporary Native American arts.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian opens two new tribal community exhibitions in the “Our Peoples: Giving Voice to Our Histories” exhibition; the Blackfeet Nation of Browning, Mont., and Chiricahua Apache of Mescalero, N.M.

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian holds its National Powwow starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10–12 at the Verizon Center.

An exhibition of more than 400 objects from 11 Native communities from the North Pacific Coast—including ceremonial masks, carvings, clothing, baskets and tools—will open at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in New York, the George Gustav Heye Center Sept. 12.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian presents "Identity by Design: Tradition, Change, and Celebration in Native Women's Dresses" Saturday, March 24. The exhibition presents the museum's unique collection of historical and contemporary Native dresses, dating from the early 1800s to the present.
