Following up on the tremendous success of the star-studded production of Verdi’s Rigoletto in February, Opera New Jersey prepares to present their sensational 2008 Summer Season featuring some of the most sought-after emerging opera singers on the stage today.

For the 2008 Summer Season, Opera New Jersey has expanded their Children’s Camp, Explorations in Opera, to two weeks. This is twice the length of the 2007 Camp, which was one week long. The Camp tops Opera New Jersey’s continuing commitment to opera and musical education throughout the state.

New Brunswick's State Theatre presents the New Jersey premiere of Binghamton, NY's Tri-Cities Opera in Rossini's The Barber of Seville on Saturday, May 10 at 8pm. This full-scale Gioacchino Rossini opera includes a live orchestra, chorus, and America's brightest opera stars. The opera is performed in Italian with English supertitles and conducted by Duane Skrabalak. Tickets range from $30-65 (group, student, and senior discounts available).

Approximately 285 university science and technology students participated in this year's "Scientists Exploring the Arts" (SEA) series—a unique partnership between the State Theatre and Bridgewater-based National Starch and Chemical Company. The three-performance series offers young scientists an opportunity to discover three distinctive art forms and to meet personnel from the National Starch and Chemical Company, a world leader in the specialty chemical industry.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra makes a stop at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on its coast-to-coast U.S. tour featuring world-renowned 21-year-old violinist Sarah Chang on Thursday, May 8 at 8pm. The program includes Respighi's Gli Uccelli (The Birds), Charles Wuorinen's Synaxis, and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. State Theatre presents the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT), America’s foremost cultural ambassador, on Tuesday, May 6 at 8pm and Wednesday, May 7 at 8pm. There is a complimentary Pre-Performance Insights for ticket holders on Tuesday, May 6 at 7pm at United Methodist Church (323 George Street) in New Brunswick. In addition to the public shows, there will be a school day performance on May 7 at 10:30am, for students in grades 4-12.
