Spirited rhythms and a kaleidoscope of moods await listeners when Canadian conductor Bramwell Tovey leads the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in a stunning program of works by Slavic composers: Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Béla Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2 (with charismatic soloist Leila Josefowicz making her fourth appearance with the NJSO) and Uzbekistan­born Australian composer Elena Kats­Chernin’s Zoom and Zip, heard in its East Coast concert premiere.

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has joined with 12 other orchestras nationwide to form the Sphinx Commissioning Consortium (SCC), a new initiative with a goal of highlighting Black and Latino composers and encouraging diversity in classical music. The Sphinx Organization, the national non­profit organization dedicated to increasing Black and Latino participation in professional and educational music endeavors, will administer the new initiative.

State Theatre presents Los Angeles dance troupe, Diavolo on Friday, February 15, 2008 at 8pm and Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 8pm for two nights of inspiring movement and dance. Diavolo's team of dancers, gymnasts, and actors twirl and fly across surrealistic set pieces to present crowd-pleasing and high-risk performances exploring the human condition.

State Theatre presents Family Day featuring performances of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites performed by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia on Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11am and 1:30pm. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is part of the State Theatre's winter festival, Hub City Carnivale, three weeks of performances, activities, and attractions for children 1-100, sponsored by PSE&G.

State Theatre has announced the 12 finalists of the talent auditions for Showtime at the Apollo on Tour, coming to the State Theatre, Saturday, February 9 at 8pm. The winner will be awarded a $500 cash prize and the possibility of appearing on stage at Harlem's famous Apollo Theater.

The State Theatre presents an evening of soaring entertainment with AEROS on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 8pm. A fusion of gymnastics and modern dance, the members of AEROS—also members of The Romanian Gymnastics Federation—perform a breathtaking theatrical experience full of nonstop cartwheels, back flips, somersaults and handstands, comedic segments, human musical chairs, a sequence on a set of parallel bars, trampolines, and more. AEROS also features an original musical score.
