Nokia is suing its U.S. rival, Apple for patent infringements on mobile phone technology for the iPhone. The 10 alleged patent infringements involve wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption. Nokia claims that it has not been compensated for its technology and feels that Apple has received a free ride using Nokia's innovation.

As Nokia reported it's its second quarter net sales it admitted that the world's largest cell phone maker's market share of Devices & Services declined by 15 percent and it's total mobile device volume was 103.2 million units.

Nokia has always managed to add "bread and butter" phones to their line-up. The new innovation could be used by both business and casual users alike with not much fancy frills or gimmicks. Nokia was probably the first one to launch mobile phones featuring blue tooth including color display with the 6310i and 6230i.

On Tuesday, Intel and Nokia confirmed a long-term union with a vision to create novel mobile technology.

AdMob's latest Mobile Metrics Report (.PDF), released Tuesday, shows that 50% of the United States smartphone web traffic is coming from iPhones.

Nokia announced that its Qt cross-platform User Interface (UI) and application framework for desktop and embedded platforms will be available under the Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 2.1 license from the release of Qt 4.5, scheduled for March 2009.
