Learn About Black History

As part of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force's celebration of Black History Month in February, several exhibits in the Air Power Gallery feature contributions from prominent black personnel in Air Force history. During World War II, the U.S. military segregated African Americans into separate units. However, the U.S. Army Air Forces gave blacks a unique opportunity to do sophisticated engineering work in segregated Engineering Aviation Battalions (EABs).

The Toledo Museum of Art opens the free exhibition Symphonic Poem: The Art of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson on February 23, 2007. Robinson-a Columbus, Ohio, native and MacArthur Foundation "Genius"-relates poetic stories of the people and places in her life using materials that are readily available, including buttons, beads, fabrics, twigs, bark, and a homemade media she calls hogmawg.

Exploring the Ancient Seaside Villas of the Roman Elite

The Toledo Museum of Art opens the exhibition In Stabiano: Exploring the Ancient Seaside Villas of the Roman Elite on November 11, 2006, an extremely rare exhibition of 2,000-year-old Roman frescoes that have never before toured the United States. The exhibition consists of more than 70 works of art and artifacts recovered from five ancient Roman villas located in Stabiae, a resort community of lavish summer homes overlooking the Bay of Naples.
