Opel will present the Astra sedan for the first time in China at the Beijing Motor Show, adding to the palette of the five cars already on offer and promising to further increase the popularity of Opel cars in this high growth market.

Sporty design accents and the enhanced interior emphasize the fully variable seven-seater’s distinctive powerful appearance. The new model of course features the Zafira’s trademark variable Flex7 seating system – an unrivalled innovation that transforms the car’s interior from a seven to a five, four, three or two-seater in seconds without cumbersome removal of the seats, and has also set flexibility standards beyond its own segment.

The Opel Antara’s adaptability and functionality will be put to the test once again in January 2008. For the second year in a row, an Antara with Balázs Szalay and his ‘Szalay Dakar Team’ at the wheel will take on the Lisbon-Dakar rally – the longest and most difficult cross-country rally competition in the world.

The new Opel Zafira – available to order now – features an even more attractive look and technology range at no extra cost. The new 85 kW/115 hp 1.6 ECOTEC entry-level model in Opel’s fully variable compact monocab range costs 21,210 euros, for example – exactly the same recommended retail price as the previous 1.6-liter version with 10 hp less.

Featuring high practicality at an affordable price, the new Agila can now be ordered from 9,990 euros and will be available at dealerships from spring 2008. The new Opel mini monocab offers plenty of feel-good space for family and friends, as well as up to 1050 liters of cargo capacity despite the car’s compact exterior length of 3.74 meters.

Opel’s next-generation range of mid-size cars promises a radical step forward. The new model family, which makes its world premiere at the London Motor Show in July 2008, sets technology and design standards for the Opel brand and mid-size segment. To lead off the proceedings, Opel announced the new model’s name: Opel Insignia. The new Insignia family will be built at Opel’s home plant in Rüsselsheim, one of the most state-of-the-art automobile production facilities in the world.

With fresh design accents and three additional engines, the new Opel Zafira will be available at dealerships from February 2008. The Zafira’s striking looks communicate dynamics and self-confidence.

In 1982, the Opel Corsa’s global success story in Europe began when the supermini debuted in a segment that it would play a leading role in for years to come. The Corsa was the best-selling car in its class in Germany from 1995 to 2001 – a position it recaptured in the first half of 2007 – and also topped its segment in the United Kingdom in 2004 and 2005, achieving a market share of almost 16 percent.

Opel’s ‘GSi’ title has a tradition dating back to 1984, when a 115 hp Kadett E first bore the three letters. Thanks to extraordinary aerodynamics, this car could top 200 km/h. Its success prompted Opel to include a sporty high-performance GSi variant in the Corsa range, beginning in 1987. The continuing motto through Corsa GSi models has been ‘more substance than show’ – their sportiness is radiated subtly, rather than aggressively and uncompromisingly.

The motto of the new Opel Corsa GSi, which joined the Corsa model line in June 2007, is ‘more substance than show’. Unlike the uncompromising high-performance look of the Opel Corsa OPC that was launched in March 2007, the new GSi radiates subtle sportiness, and is now available as a five-door variant.

In essence, the environmental strategy of General Motors and Opel is to reduce CO2 emissions in the short term and introduce new propulsion technologies in the long term. The goal is to offer customers vehicles that can operate on many different energy sources. The multi-tiered approach includes accelerating the development of electrically powered vehicles, stepping up efforts to displace fossil fuels and increasing the efficiency of gasoline and diesel engines.
