Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No - it's an opera singer. Londoners were amazed this morning to be greeted with the sight of opera superstar Lesley Garrett giving her most unique performance yet - 50 metres above the Tower of London.

Glimmerglass Opera has announced that soprano Lyubov Petrova will make her company and role debut as Cleopatra in the company’s new production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, which will run July 6 through August 23 at the Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown, New York.

The conference welcomes delegates from across the USA, Canada, Mexico, and beyond to convene over opera-related topics. Calgary Opera will partake in a showcase of North American new works.

For the 2008 Summer Season, Opera New Jersey has expanded their Children’s Camp, Explorations in Opera, to two weeks. This is twice the length of the 2007 Camp, which was one week long. The Camp tops Opera New Jersey’s continuing commitment to opera and musical education throughout the state.

Two of opera’s biggest stars, soprano Angela Gheorghiu and tenor Roberto Alagna, will perform together in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on June 20 at 8pm, together with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus, in what is anticipated will be one of the Metropolitan Opera’s largest outdoor concerts in company history.
