Kenya’s main opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) says it will stage a demonstration against the meeting of heads of state of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) scheduled to open in Nairobi Wednesday.

Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov has been arrested along with other opposition leaders after leading protests against current Russian president Vladimir Putin. Kasparov, a prominent critic of Putin, founded the United Civil Front and named the Other Russia umbrella of opposition parties after retiring from chess.

Pakistani Opposition Leader Benazir Bhutto is holding a strategy meeting with senior members of her party to plan further protests against the state of emergency. Ms Bhutto was allowed to drive out of her residence a short time ago after the regime lifted a blockade.
