New module addresses need for fast protection and switching for carrier customers

Nortel has teamed with Northwestern University to demonstrate an international network - designed and optimized to deliver digital media and video - based on next-generation optical network technology.

Ciena® Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), the network specialist, today announced that VSNL, a leading communications solutions provider and member of the US $29 billion Tata Group, has deployed Ciena's CoreDirector® Multiservice Optical Switches to create the first nationwide intelligent optical mesh network in India.

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) and CYTA, the leading operator in Cyprus, have signed a contract for a Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network based on Ericsson's GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) solution.
