Hall's paintings are inspired by the artist's visits to Palm Springs' pools and resorts and Los Angeles' posh Westside and beaches. Depictions of privileged, beautiful women grinning with self-satisfaction against the inevitable ravages of time became the basis of Hall's imagery. Employing a realist style of painting, the artist celebrates the color and quality of light in sunny environments. The paintings will be on view from 05.24.08 to 09.14.08.

Master of the bizarre John Waters will perform his one-man monologue Filthy World at the Annenberg Theater on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 8:00 p.m.

The Palm Springs Art Museum’s Artists Council has announced the 2007-2008 Art Workshops schedule featuring a wide variety of stimulating classes for everyone from the beginning watercolorist to the seasoned printmaker.

Prestigious New York publisher Rizzoli International will release the Julius Shulman: Palm Springs book in conjunction with its namesake exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum in February 2008.

The Palm Springs Art Museum will host a free global film series from August 9-30, 2007 on Thursday nights at 4 and 6 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. On the evenings of the films, any remaining seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

On April 11, 2007 the Palm Springs Art Museum's Treasures of the West: Art from Desert Collections exhibition will open to the public featuring over 100 artworks collected by residents of the Coachella Valley as well as select works from the Art Museum's permanent collection.

On Wednesday, April 4, 2007 the Annenberg Theater will present singing sensation Davis Gaines at 8 p.m. as the fifth act in the Fitz's Intimate Nights at the Annenberg concert series. Gold seats are $50 for Palm Springs Art Museum members and $55 for nonmembers.

On Sunday, March 25, 2007 architect Jennifer Siegal will present her lecture TransModern Architecture at the Palm Springs Art Museum's Annenberg Theater at 2 p.m. The lecture, hosted by the Art Museum's Architecture & Design Council, will be followed by a reception in the Marks Graphics Center. Tickets are $5 for ADC members and $10 for non-members.

On Saturday, April 21, 2007, landscape architect Ken Smith will present his lecture No Bushes in the Annenberg Theater at 6 p.m. The lecture is being held by the Architecture and Design Council of the Palm Springs Art Museum. Tickets are $5 for ADC members and $10 for nonmembers.

Together, The Palm Springs Art Museum and The Palm Springs Public Library are pleased to announce the upcoming National Library Week unveiling of The Journey-an exciting Altered Book Art Project! The unveiling will take place on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Library with all the artists in attendance. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is pleased to announce the acquisition of a Helen Pashgian cast epoxy and mixed media wall sculpture. The piece UNTITLED (Copper), 2006 was purchased with funds provided by the Contemporary Art Council and chosen from a selection of three Pashgian pieces, voted upon at a recent acquisitions dinner. The piece will become part of the Art Museum's permanent collection.
