The North West Shelf Australia LNG, announced its support of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s tour of Japan in 2009. The partnership is one of the biggest business/arts partnerships in Australian history.

Under the baton of renowned Japanese conductor Tadaaki Otaka, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra will perform A Hero’s Life on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 June at the Perth Concert Hall.

On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 July the West Australian Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 80th anniversary with a gala celebration. WASO’s Conductor Laureate, Vladimir Verbitsky and former principal dancer of The Australian Ballet, Perth-born Steven Heathcote come together for The Ballets Russes, a tribute to the inspirational creativity of Diaghilev, Stravinsky and the astonishing group of dancers of The Ballets Russes.

The West Australian Symphony Orchestra performs Through New Eyes at 7.30pm at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on Friday 15 August featuring John Harding, WASO Concertmaster and series director and Alan R. Dodge as the presenter.

The opening concert of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra's 2008 Classic Series has a distinct Scandinavian feel when Norwegian conductor, Arild Remmereit, makes his Australian debut in an eloquent program of evocative masterpieces and contrasting musical landscapes.

International hit maker Dionne Warwick returns to Australia for a series of concerts in November. She will perform with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra at the Riverside Theatre, Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on Monday December 3rd.

A unique scheme to nurture young directing talent is opening its doors again following the appointment of a former trainee to the role of director of one of this season's Perth Youth Theatre productions.

From Tuesday 14 August – Friday 24 August five members of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra will be on tour in the Pilbara and Kimberley to conduct music workshops with primary and secondary school children in Broome, Port Hedland, Dampier, Karratha and Roebourne.
