The Portland Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce that Robert Moody will conduct the four outdoor Independence Pops performances in Maine beginning June 30. An exhilarating summertime tradition in southern Maine not to be missed, the concerts will be held this year again at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton (June 30), Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick (July 1), Goodall Park in Sanford (July 2) and Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth (July 3). All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.

This year, the Portland Symphony Orchestra gets a jump start on Earth Day (April 22) at Music for Earth Day, Merrill Auditorium, April 14th and 15th. These concerts celebrate the power of nature as depicted through music and the arts.

On Tuesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. the Portland Symphony Orchestra presents a program of stunning vocal works culminating with Brahms’ masterpiece Ein deutsche Requiem (“A German Requiem”).

The Marriott has been secured for PORTopera's annual Dinner/Dance & Auction on Friday, May 9th, which this year will celebrate and support our 2008 mainstage production of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette. A sumptuous northern Italian dinner will be served, and the Bob Charest band, which rocked the house last year, will once again play for dinner and dancing.

One of the most famous works of classical music opens the Portland Symphony Orchestra 2008 lineup of concerts Tuesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium.

All the musicians are donating their time and talents to bring Magic to as wide an audience as possible.

Igor Stravinsky is considered by many to be the most influential artist of the 20th century. In honor of his 125th birthday year, the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents a two-concert celebration of this groundbreaking composer on its Sunday Classical and Tuesday Classical concerts in November. Both concerts will be conducted by Joseph Silverstein, Artistic Advisor to the PSO for the 2007-2008 season.
