The Portland Symphony Orchestra has set the stage for the hiring of a new music director with four new employees and two internal promotions. The new hires and promotions are part of PSO's plan to strengthen the connection between the orchestra and the southern Maine community.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a public forum on Thursday, March 22 at 5:30pm in the Rehearsal Hall at Merrill Auditorium to announce the 2007-2008 season and discuss the search for a new Music Director.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra presents a fun and informative Youth Concert on Monday and Tuesday, March 26 and 27 at 9:30 and 11:10 a.m. in Merrill Auditorium featuring the award-winning folk ensemble, Le Vent du Nord as well as special guest meteorologists Joe Cupo and Kevin Mannix from WCSH6.

Guest conductor Daniel Meyer will lead the Portland Symphony Orchestra in "Celtic Color and Canadian Clippers," an irresistible program rooted in European tradition, but with a whimsical New World flair. Special guest ensemble Le Vent du Nord will join the PSO at Merrill Auditorium on Saturday, March 24 at 8:00pm and Sunday, March 25 at 2:30 pm, for the final performances of PSO's 2006-2007 Pops series.

The 2007 Wine Dinner and Auction on Monday, March 26 is a much-anticipated annual event. This year's Wine Dinner features a French-inspired four-course meal paired with French wines from the portfolio of Kermit Lynch. The dinner will be held at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport starting at 5:30 p.m.

Composers have been depicting nature in music for centuries, but rarely with such inspired results as in Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons." On March 4 at 2:30 p.m., The Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents its second Lexus of Portland Sunday Classical concert of the season, featuring this beloved work, with conductor Markand Thakar and Concertmaster Charles Dimmick performing as violin soloist.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra presents the entertaining and educational "Woodwinds: Aesop's Fables" Kinderkonzerts beginning March 5. These 45-minute concerts encourage active participation from the audience of kids ages 4-7, inviting them to sing, dance, wiggle, clap, and have fun listening and learning with PSO musicians.

Every year, music lovers and "foodies" look forward to the Portland Symphony's "Wine Dinner and Auction," a benefit dinner featuring fine food, select wines, live music performances, and silent and live auctions. This year the dinner will be held at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport on Monday, March 26 starting at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m., the Portland Symphony Orchestra presents the fourth concert of its Tuesday Classical Series. Guest conductor Arie Lipsky will step up to the podium for a deeply romantic concert program, featuring the charming "Invitation to the Dance" by Weber (arr. Berlioz), Brahms' virtuosic Double Concerto with violinist Mikhail Kopelman and cellist Steven Doane, and Rachmaninoff's timeless and passionate Symphonic Dances.

Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) announces two guest conductor updates for concerts coming up in March. Both conductors have recently led the PSO in previous concerts.

On Saturday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 11 at 2:30 p.m., the Portland Symphony Orchestra (PSO) will present the Three Broadway Divas, featuring the vocal talents of Debbie Gravitte, Jan Horvath and Christiane Noll. Guest conductor Markand Thakar will lead the PSO, bringing Broadway tunes from A Chorus Line, Les Misérables, Evita, Gypsy and other favorites to life on the Merrill Auditorium stage.
