Puerto Rico Oil Explosion Declared State of Emergency

The White House has declared a state of emergency in Puerto Rico, following Friday’s massive oil explosion and fire at the Caribbean Petroleum Corporation storage facility outside San Juan. Approximately 1,500 people have been evacuated because of the disaster and toxic smoke is blowing into residential areas. Puerto Rico's Governor Fortuno said that the blaze has already cost Puerto Rico at least $6.4 million.

Everyone is talking about the recent explosion which blasted Puerto Rico. The explosion occurred at the Petroleum Gulf Oil Center, at around 12:30 AM Puerto Rican time. Thirty Petroleum Oil Tanks were damaged, but luckily, no deaths have been noted.

Puerto Rico to Lay Off 16,000 Public Workers

An announcement was made today that Puerto Rico's government will lay off 16,970 public workers in an effort to close the gap on a $3.2 billion deficit. This is the third year of the recession and hopes the layoffs will help close a $3.2 billion deficit as the island struggles through its third year of recession and a 15% percent unemployment rate.
