Khun Sa, the highest profile drug warlord of the fabled Golden Triangle, is reported to have died in Rangoon.

In the Democratic republic of Congo, the leader of the rebel National Congress for the People’s Defense (NCPD) said his forces would not be able to abide by President Joseph Kabila’s ultimatum of laying down their weapons today (Monday).

At least 10 LTTE cadres have been killed and 15 others injured in two simultaneous clashes with the security forces in Sri Lanka's northern district of Mullaithivu, reports our Colombo correspondent KM Ravindran.

Britain has suspended aid payments to Sri Lanka, because of concerns about the country's human rights record and intensifying violence. As Anjana Pasricha reports from New Delhi, the suspension comes a year and a half after new fighting erupted between the Sri Lanka government and Tamil Tiger rebels.

Sri Lankan officials say suspected Tamil rebels have killed four farmers in the eastern part of the country. Officials say rebels ambushed the farmers Thursday in the district of Polonnaruwa. The attack happened near a jungle area where Tamil rebels have been fighting Sri Lankan troops. The rebels had no immediate comment on the shootings.

Authorities in Sri Lanka say a bus has exploded in the eastern part of the country, killing at least 14 people and wounding 20 others.

Sri Lanka's Defense Ministry says a roadside bomb killed five soldiers and wounded another Friday, as they traveled in the country's north. In a separate incident, officials say mortar fire from Tamil rebels late Thursday killed eight civilians in the east.

Sri Lanka's military says troops have captured a key Tamil rebel stronghold in the eastern part of the country. Officials say troops took control of Kokkadichcholai in the district of Batticaloa, seizing a large haul of arms and ammunition. Tamil Tiger rebels have not commented on the raid.

Eight former Darfur rebels and two Sudanese police officers were killed during clashes on Saturday outside of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. Noel King in Khartoum reports that the former rebels of the Sudan Liberation Movement say they were attacked by Sudanese police and call the fighting a grave threat to the Darfur Peace Agreement.
