The World Bank has approved Robert Zoellick as its next president, turning a page after a scandal that undermined its credibility around the world.

President Bush's nominee to be the next head of the World Bank Robert Zoellick is on a three-continent trip aimed at familiarizing himself with some of the Bank's financiers and customers. Zoellick is in Europe after visiting three African countries last week.

U.S. President George W. Bush has named Robert Zoellick, a former trade representative and top diplomat as his nominee to head the World Bank. Bush said the 53-year-old Zoellick is devoted to improving the world economy.

Today President Bush selected Ambassador Robert Zoellick as his candidate to head the World Bank. Robert Zoellick is the former US Trade Representative.

A senior administration official says President Bush will nominate former Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to be the new president of the World Bank. Zoellick had also served as U.S. Trade Representative.
