The Defence Department has confirmed an Australian soldier was wounded in a rocket attack in the Iraqi capital.

Palestinian militants have stepped up rocket attacks against Israel after a tightening of Israeli sanctions on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Robert Berger reports from the VOA bureau in Jerusalem.

A U.S. general has accused Teheran of sending rockets to Shi'ite groups fighting Iraq's government and U.S. forces in Iraq. The U.S. military spokesman, Major General Kevin Bergner, said U.S. experts have gathered considerable evidence a rocket that hit the American military headquarters in Iraq Tuesday came from Iranian sources.

At least 69 Israeli soldiers have been injured, some seriously, as a result of a rocket attack on a military training base, an Israeli Army spokesman said Tuesday.

A rocket attack this morning in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed one man and wounded five people, including a small boy, RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reported. A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said the missile struck near a building complex in Kabul's east. It is not known who may have been behind the attack.
