The collapse of a 23 year old runner in Saturday's Baltimore Marathon marks the second fatality in the 9 year history of the Baltimore Marathon. The runner, identified by the Princeton University newspaper as Peter Curtain, collapsed in the 25th mile of the race and was pronounced dead at Union Memorial Hospital two hours later.

Regular running slows the effects of aging, according to a new study from Stanford University School of Medicine that has tracked 500 older runners for more than 20 years. Elderly runners have fewer disabilities, a longer span of active life and are half as likely as aging nonrunners to die early deaths, the research found.
