The two-day S60 Summit was opened today in Barcelona. The event highlights the largest contingent of mobile application developers in the event's history including more than 60 exhibits featuring location, enterprise, social media and productivity solutions as well as the latest devices.

S60 software, developed by Nokia, is licensed to some of the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers including LG Electronics, Nokia and Samsung. Today at the Mobile World Congress, these licensees announced six new devices based on S60 3rd Edition complementing their device portfolios and leveraging the next wave of Internet experience and usability enhancements.

Building on their existing collaboration around mobile entertainment, Nokia and Microsoft Corp. have extended their cooperation to include support for Microsoft® PlayReady(TM) technology into the Nokia S60 and Series 40 mobile device platforms.

Nokia today announced that over 100 million S60 devices have cumulatively been shipped by S60 licensees to date. S60 software built on Symbian OS is the world's leading smartphone software, developed by Nokia and licensed by some of the industry's top mobile device manufacturers.
