The Saint Louis Art Museum announces the February 23 opening of Chinese Textiles, an exhibition of rarely seen textiles in the Museum's collection dating from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

The Saint Louis Art Museum welcomes artist Isaac Julien to the Auditorium for a free discussion of his work and a screening of his film True North. The film is part of a larger project, also entitled True North, that includes a series of one-meter square color photographs. The exhibition Currents 99: Isaac Julien, on view through March 11 in Gallery 335, includes eight of the images in the project.

Showcasing the talents of St. Louis-area floral designers and garden clubs, participants in Art in Bloom are challenged to create arrangements that interpret a work of art in the Museum's collection.

The Saint Louis Art Museum continues its Sounds from the Collection series with a free performance January 28 at 2 p.m. in Grigg Gallery. Members of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Bach, Mozart and Beethoven following a discussion of connections between the compositions and works of art in the Museum's collection.

Responding to popular demand, the Saint Louis Art Museum has extended the exhibition Rembrandt: Master Etchings from St. Louis Collections one week. Originally scheduled to close January 14, 2007, visitors now have until January 21 to view more than 40 of Rembrandt's best etchings from the public and private collections of St. Louis and the artist's famous painting Self-Portrait from the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis, The Hague in the Netherlands.

Known for combining a spontaneous approach to photography with a large-format camera, highly-regarded contemporary photographer Nicholas Nixon creates black and white images that are both candid and aesthetically commanding. Since coming to prominence in the mid 1970s with stunning architectural views of New York and Boston, he has pursued innovative approaches to portraiture.
