Chinese automaker Geely Auto Holdings Group announced it had fulfilled its 2008 annual sales target of 225,000 units and would increase sales by 25% in 2009, China News Service reported.

Dongfeng Honda said it over-fulfilled this year sales target on Dec. 26, Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported. The automaker sold 164,200 units this year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 26), up 29% year on year.

The persistent market slump has forced China’s automakers to slash their previously set sales targets, said sina.com today. Except a few auto companies, such as Dongfeng Honda and Dongfeng Nissan, most automakers in China are unable to reach their output and sales goals by the end of the year.

Great Wall Motor Co, China's largest manufacturer of sports utility vehicles and pick-up trucks, has lowered its full year sales target of 2008 from the original 160,000 vehicles to 130,000 units due to sliding market.

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co., Ltd. (DPCA) said it has cut this year's sales target to 200,000 units from the original target of 280,000 as sales fall, and has laid off 1,000 employees, state media Xinhua news agency reported today.

Italian carmaker Fiat has lowered its ambitious annual sales target by 2010 in China to 50,000 units from 300,000 set three years ago, down by 83%, Beijing Times said today, citing Fiat China.

FAW-Toyota, Changan Ford and some automakers in China has cut their sales target for 2008 due to auto market slowdown, Beijing Times said today, citing sources.
