A firestorm has been brewing among conservatives with regards to soda. It's not because soda is bad for you, but because PepsiCo Company has been accused of advocating both same-sex marriage and homosexuality. The furor has become such that the American Family Association (AFA) says it has now secured over 500,000 signatures on a petition from those pledging to boycott PepsiCo.

At the stroke of midnight, as the date ticked over to Sept. 1st, Vermont's new same-sex marriage law took effect. Some couples took advantage of that timing, with a few getting married right after the stroke of midnight.

The New York Post reports that Hakim Nelson and Jason Stenson became the first same-sex couple to be married in New York State, doing so on May 26. The fact that same-sex marriage isn't legal in New York City didn't apparently faze city officials.

On Tuesday, California's Supreme Court upheld the controversial anti-gay marriage Proposition 8, which was passed last year using California's initiative process. At the same time, the justices confirmed that the 18,000-plus same-sex marriages that took place before the Proposition was approved by voters will stand. The vote was 6-1.

California's State Supreme Court is set to rule on the constitutionality of Proposition 8, the initiative driven through California's complex initiative process that amended the state Constitution to declare that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

New York Archbishop-designate Timothy Dolan, who is succeeding Cardinal Edward Egan (retiring after nine years), says he will challenge any same-sex marriage proposal put forth by the state of New York.
