Kansas University Design Department Announces Project With Nokia

The Department of Design in KU's School of Fine Arts announced that it has developed a project with telecommunication industry leaders Nokia and Cingular, now part of the new AT&T. Partnering with the School of Journalism's News and Information area as well as The School of Business Entrepreneurship Program, the design department will examine the high-end Nokia N93 and N73 camera phones.

Kansas University Students Win Big At Design Competition

Students and recent graduates in the Department of Design at the University of Kansas walked away big winners at the third annual American Institute of Graphic Artists Kansas City Design Awards. The event, also known as A3 Awards, took place Jan. 19 in Kansas City, Mo. KU received 27 awards at the competition - the most awards given to a participating group.

Kansas University Jazz Festival Celebrates 30th Year

This year marks the 30th birthday for the KU Jazz Festival, sponsored by KU's Music and Dance Department in the School of Fine Arts. The festival, which features educational and performance opportunities for students and live concerts for the general public, takes place March 2-3, 2007.

Design Professor Chosen For Craft Show Honor

Thomas Huang, assistant professor of industrial design in KU's Department of Design, was recently named as a 2007 American Craft Show Searchlight Artist. Huang joins fourteen other artists as a nominated Searchlight Artist, a category newly created by the American Craft Council to feature emerging artists.

Art Professor Contributes To Sculpture Trail

A proposal to turn a section of the Kansas River trail into a sculpture trail may soon become a reality. If all goes as planned, a new work created by John Hachmeister, KU associate professor of sculpture, will be installed on a trail that connects Burcham Park and Constant Park near downtown Lawrence.

Kansas University Opera Presents "Tales Of Hoffmann"

Kansas University Opera in the Department of Music and Dance will present Tales of Hoffmann, Jacques Offenbach's great masterpiece and perennial favorite, for five performances beginning February 1st. The opera will be sung in English and accompanied by a small combo led by Mark Ferrell, KU Opera music director and associate professor of music.
