A gunman is at large today after he opened fire in a downtown Orlando office building. At least eight people were seriously hurt and it has been reported that at least two people are dead. An Orlando Police Department spokeswoman identified the alleged shooter as Jason Rodriguez, who used to work in the building. Rodriguez is still at large.

In every tragedy, there is usually a hero. Even in the aftermath of the shooting rampage that took place yesterday at the U.S. Army's largest base in the world at Fort Hood, TX, heroes can be found, and the Army is highlighting those individuals.

In the wake of the Fort Hood tragedy, in which Major Nidal Malik Hasan shot and killed 13 and wounded 30, Muslims around the U.S. brace for fallout. With his cry of 'Allahu Akbar,' which means "God is Great" in Arabic, Hasan set the stage for possible retribution against Muslims in the U.S.

According to witnesses, as he strode into Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, ready to shoot, Major Nidal Malik Hasan gave a calm presence. Then, shouting 'Allahu Akbar,' he attacked.

The shooter involved in the tragic Fort Hood shooting today, which occurred at 1:30 CST, has not, in fact, been killed as has been previously reported. At a press conference, Lt. Gen. Robert Cone reported that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan has in fact been wounded, captured, and is in custody.

New Jersey police are investigating a bullet that struck the side of CNN host Lou Dobbs' home. While the bullet didn't penetrate the building, and fell to the ground, Dobbs' wife, Debi Lee Segura, was standing outside the house, along with her driver on Oct 5th when the incident occurred. No one was hurt.

George Sodini, the man identified as the gunman in Wednesday night's deadly LA Fitness health club shooting in Collier Township, Pennsylvania, blogged about the attack just one day before. George Sodini's blog details a lonely man, angry with his family that actually tried to carry out this deadly heath club shooting once before.

An early morning shootout on Thursday between police and gunmen in Jersey City, New Jersey ended with two suspects dead and five officers wounded. Besides those five, three others were wounded, though not by gunfire, in the shooting.

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that in the midst of the court hearing that ended in former BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle being ordered tried for murder in the slaying of Oscar Grant was testimony about another officer's expletive uttered just 30 seconds before Grant was shot.

Ed Thomas, a long-time Aplington-Parkersburg High School athletic director and football coach, was shot in the school's weight room this morning. He later died at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA. The school is in Parkersburg, about 80 miles northeast of Des Moines.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with Saturday's deadly shooting at a Denny's restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
