Astronomers for the first time have taken snapshots of a multi-planet solar system, much like ours, orbiting another star.

Astronomers at the University of Michigan have found what are believed to be some of the youngest solar systems yet detected.

US scientists announced the discovery of a new planet orbiting a star beyond the solar system, raising further hopes that life may one day be found elsewhere in the universe.

Astronomers say they have found the first conclusive evidence of water outside our own solar system. The scientists say they have found evidence of water vapor in the atmosphere of a giant planet, called HD 18933b, more than 60 light-years away.

Astronomers have found the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date, a world which could have water running on its surface. Scientists say the benign temperatures on the planet mean any water there could exist in liquid form, and this raises the chances it could also harbour life.
